The Nottingham Group Awarded Contract to Provide Forensic Accounting Services to a Local County’s Agency on Aging

The Nottingham Group was awarded a contract with a local county government to provide forensic accounting and fraud investigation services to its Agency for the Aging. The Nottingham Group will provide fraud investigation and analytical services to the agency in their investigation of financial crimes against the elderly.  

 

Karl Jarek Speaks at a Pennsylvania Bar Institute Program on Proving Financial Fraud

Karl Jarek was a presenter at “Uncovering and Proving Financial Fraud” a program put on by the Pennsylvania Bar Institute.  Specifically, Mr. Jarek spoke about accountants and financial experts’ roles in uncovering and proving financial fraud.

 

James Fellin is Reappointed by Carlow University to Teach a Course at Carlow University

James Fellin returned to Carlow University as an adjunct professor, teaching the class “Fraud Investigation Techniques.”  The class is part of the forensic accounting major offered by the university.

 

James Fellin Presents on “Providing Services on Criminal Defense Cases” to the Pittsburgh Chapter of the ACFE

James Fellin presented on the topic of forensic accounting services in criminal defense engagements at the monthly meeting of the ACFE.  Mr. Fellin provided the audience with an overview of the types of services provided by forensic accountants and fraud examiners to assist with the defense of persons under criminal investigation or indictment.    

 

Senior Consultant Chris Dumbroski Services as One of the Keynote Speakers in Lorman Education Seminar on IRS Form 1099 Reporting

Senior Consultant Chris Dumbroski taught a seminar concerning Form 1099 mistakes and the future of Form 1099 reporting at a Lorman Education Seminar.  Lorman Education is one of the largest providers of continuing education class in the United States.

  

James Fellin Attends the AICPA Forensic and Valuation Services Convention in Las Vegas to Gain the Latest Training and Cutting Edge Techniques

James Fellin attended the AICPA Forensic and Valuation Services Convention in Las Vegas. The conference was attended by over 2,000 members of the AICPA, who gathered for three days to learn about modern trends and techniques on the cutting edge of forensic accounting topics.

 

James Fellin Serves as the Keynote Speaker for the Pennsylvania Society of Professional Accountants

For the second consecutive year, James Fellin spoke to the Pennsylvania Society of Professional Accountants.  He spoke on the topic of techniques utilized in forensic accounting engagements.  The Pennsylvania Society of Professional Accountants is an organization that provides education, information, tools and resources to more than 1,600 members around the state.  

 

James S. Fellin Re-Elected as President of the Pittsburgh Chapter of the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners

On June 12, 2013, James S. Fellin won re-election as the President of the Pittsburgh Chapter of the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners for a two-year term.  The ACFE Pittsburgh chapter is an organization of anti-fraud professionals dedicated to preventing and detecting fraud. The Pittsburgh chapter has approximately 100 members, and holds monthly seminars and other programs in the area of fraud prevention and detection.

Kaitlyn Hamilton Joins The Nottingham Group as a Staff Consultant

Kaitlyn Hamilton has joined the Nottingham Group as a staff consultant. Kaitlyn graduated from Waynesburg University with a degree in Accounting. She is also currently a student in the Masters of Fraud and Forensics Program at Carlow University. She anticipates receiving her MFF in August 2013.

 

James Fellin Presents at Penn State Series on Criminal Tax Investigations

James Fellin was the featured speaker at Penn State Greater Allegheny series. On January 17, 2013, February 13, 2013, and March 13, 2013, Mr. Fellin made three presentations on Navigating Client Criminal Tax Fraud Investigation. Penn State Greater Allegheny is an extension of Penn State in State College, Pennsylvania.

 

James Fellin, a Featured Speaker at George Harris Seminar

James Fellin was selected as a federal speaker at an 8 hour education seminar sponsored by George R. Harris and Associates. The seminar took place on November 7, 2012. Mr. Fellin spoke on Navigating a Criminal Tax Investigation.

 

James Fellin Accepts Adjunct Position at Carlow for Fall 2012

James Fellin returned as an adjunct professor at Carlow University for the full semester of 2012 to teach Fraud Prevention and Ethics class. This class is part of a forensic accounting major.

 

James Fellin Graduates from the Masters of Fraud and Forensics Program at Carlow University

In August of 2012, James Fellin was bestowed a Masters of Fraud and Forensics degree from Carlow University in Pittsburgh, PA. This is a master’s level program. The program is also the first of its kind to be offered in the state and the tri-state area, and the program’s design is unique in the nation.

On June 13, 2012, James Fellin spoke to the Pennsylvania Society of Professional Accountants.  He spoke on the subject of the trends and techniques of Forensic Accounting.  The Pennsylvania Society of Professional Accountants is an organization that provides education, information, tools and resources to more than 1,600 members around the state.  These members consist of certified public accountants, public accountants, enrolled agents and tax practitioners.

 

James Fellin and Karl Jarek offer Anti-fraud Tips at Dollar Bank Seminar on Non-profit Fraud

Chris Dumbroski, JD LLM Joins The Nottingham Group as Senior Consultant

Chris A. Dumbroski has joined The Nottingham Group as a forensic accountant. Mr. Dumbroski has a degree in economics from Dickinson College.  After college, Mr. Dumbroski obtained his law degree from DePaul University College of Law and a Master of Laws in Taxation from Villanova University Law School’s Graduate Tax Program.

 

James Fellin serves as Featured Speaker at George Harris Seminar on Various Accounting Topics

James Fellin served as a featured speaker at George Harris & Associates Continuing Education seminar in Pittsburgh on November 8, 2011. At this seminar he spoke on the changing trends in forensic accounting.  The eight hour seminar will also feature speakers on a variety of other accounting topics throughout the day.

 

James Fellin receives fellowship for Masters of Fraud and Forensics Program at Carlow University

James Fellin has been selected for and has enrolled in the inaugural Masters of Fraud and Forensics Program offered by Carlow University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.  This cutting-edge program was created in response to the increased need for advanced training in the detection and prevention of white-collar crime.

On July 21, 2011, James Fellin spoke to the Pittsburgh Association for Financial Professionals at the Rivers Club in Pittsburgh.  He spoke on the subject of fraud, and how one can protect a company from fraud.  The Pittsburgh Association for Financial Professionals is open to individuals professionally involved in cash management, treasury management or financial management functions.

 

James Fellin Selected to Serve as Adjunct Professor at Carlow University

Managing director James Fellin was again selected to serve as an adjunct professor of forensic accounting at Carlow University.  His three-credit class, “Fraud Investigation Techniques”, commences in August 2011 under Carlow’s accelerated learning program.

James Fellin attended the National Conference of the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners in San Diego, California. The conference was attended by over 2,300 fraud professionals from around the world, who met to learn about and discuss the latest trends in fraud and advancements fraud prevention.

 

Karl Jarek’s Testimony Assists Client in Obtaining $2 Million Verdict

 June 2010

Karl Jarek testified in Federal court in the case of Crown Coal and Coke Co. v. Compass Point Resources and assisted Crown Coal in obtaining a two million dollar jury verdict. This case, and Karl’s analysis, focused on the lost profits suffered by Crown Coal as a result of the actions of two former executives.  Details of the case were reported in The Legal Intelligencer.

Karl Jarek Attends Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Citizen’s Academy

Karl Jarek completed the Federal Bureau of Investigation Citizen’s Academy.  The Citizen’s Academy is a 10-week course for business and community leaders to foster broader knowledge of and cooperation with the FBI, the Department of Justice and other law enforcement agencies.

 

Karl Jarek Leads Fraud Investigation at Pittsburgh-Based Non-profit

Karl Jarek was the lead investigator of fraud perpetrated at the Pittsburgh-based Laurel Highlands Foundation, Inc., a non-profit organization that provides services and housing to individuals with special needs.  The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette published an article citing the work of Karl and The Nottingham Group in this matter.

 

Diane Matthews, CPA Ph.D. Takes Sabbatical as Dean of Carlow University Accounting Program to Intern with The Nottingham Group, LLC

Diane Matthews, who has been the long time dean of the accounting School at Carlow and who is responsible for implementing a forensic accounting major at the school has taken a sabbatical from her work at Carlow to gain some "hands on" forensic accounting experience. To accomplish this goal, Diane is splitting her time between the Allegheny County District Attorney's Office White Collar Crime Unit and The Nottingham Group, LLC. We are excited to have Diane on staff and the new insight that she provides.

 

James Fellin is Featured Speaker at the Pennsylvania Association of Boroughs’ Legal Conference in Harrisburg, PA

 August 2008

On August 21, 2008, James Fellin presented to municipal solicitors from all over the State of Pennsylvania. The topic of his speech was "Conducting Forensic Audits at Municipalities". The Conference was held by the PA Association of Boroughs and featured a full day of speakers on various legal topics.

 

NG’s James Fellin is Appointed as Special Examiner in an Erie, PA Bankruptcy Matter

 August 2008

The Nottingham Group LLC was appointed by the United States Bankruptcy Court to serve as Examiner in a Chapter 11 bankruptcy matter on August 21, 2008. The engagement involved conducting an investigation to determine the existence and value of certain assets of the Debtor, as well as an evaluation of the Debtors Amended Plan of Reorganization.
